The New National and State standards were ratified and adopted in October of 2016. The 2017-2018 school year is the practice/planning year and time for textbook adoptions. The new state standards will be implemented in 2018-2019 school year.
Why State / National Standards?
Throughout the United States, each State Department of Education creates policy and sets education standards to provide guidelines and expectations for what students should know and be able to do throughout k-12 schooling in their state. While public schools are required to meet local and state standards, national standards are voluntary and used by some states to inform the development of their own state standards; other states adopt the national standards as their state standards.
Our TN State Standards were ratified and adopted in October of 2016 following the release of the National Core Art Standards. The state standards will roll out during the 2017-2018 school year for planning and practice time. During this year, textbooks will be adopted. 2018-2019 will see the implementation of the new state standards.
